Stay Alfred at Chisca in Memphis versus Stay Alfred Premier Lofts in Denver

Stay Alfred is excited to announce our two newest properties: Stay Alfred at The Chisca in Memphis, Tennessee andStay Alfred Premier Lofts in Denver, Colorado. To celebrate these two new STAYS we’re offering 30% off for any 2017 booking made by April 15, 2017. (Use Promo Code: NEW30 when checking out).* Booking a STAY online or with our reservations specialists is easy. The hard part is choosing where to go.

To help you, we’ve brought in two rock star Stay Alfred reservation specialists to advocate on behalf of their preferred STAY. On Team Stay Alfred at The Chisca in Memphis, we have Andy and on Team Stay Alfred Premier Lofts in Denver we have Donald. Before we get started, let’s introduce these two awesome dudes.

Chisca versus Premier Lofts

  • I’ve been playing music semi professionally as a bassist primarily for the past 13 years.
  • I’m a fan of the Coen brothers and my favorite films is O Brother, Where Art Thou?
  • I’m a new dad! My son will be two in July.
  • My favorite food is anything and everything. I’m serious. I will eat anything.

  • I’ve been growing this illustrious beard for over a year.
  • I have dislocated my shoulder 30+ times.
  • I bike to work during the summer and have been hit by a car once.
  • I have run 1 Marathon, and I did it in under 4 hours.

Now that you know the players, let’s get started.

Stay Alfred guests love to be in the heart of the city.
Tell us why your STAYS location is better.

Andy: Absolutely. I love that the Chisca building in Memphis is just blocks away from Beale Street and the Fed-Ex Forum. I mean, remember, I’m a musician, what’s not to love. You’re a short walk away from America’s most iconic street, with its unique mix of delta blues, jazz, rock ‘n’ roll, R&B and gospel. Beale Street is three blocks worth of nightclubs, restaurants and shops where the beer is cold and the music is hot.

Donald: Beale Street is cool for music nerds like yourself, but what about folks wanting to watch America’s favorite past time? Premier Lofts in Denver is one block from Coors Field where I can catch an MLB game. My STAY is right in the heart of the Historic Ballpark Neighborhood which is full of unique shops and restaurants. Memphis is cool, but Premier Lofts in Denver is a real home run.

Everyone knows one of the best things about traveling is trying new and delicious cuisine. Which STAY is better for guests to grab a bite to eat?

Andy: Memphis is famous for their fried chicken and BBQ. I’m getting hungry just thinking about it. Nothing Denver has can compete with Gus’s World Famous Fried Chicken or the unforgettable ribs you get at Rendezvous. Both these spots are only a short walk away from your STAY, so don’t worry, it won’t be tough to grab a post meal nap when the food coma hits.

Donald – I would take the awesome ambience and one-of-a-kind food and drink options at local hot spots like Butcher’s Bistro, Snooze AM and the Gin Mill over fried chicken any day. Don’t take it personally Andy, not everyone’s palate is refined enough to appreciate the duck egg carbonara or pig head with micro greens that you can find at Butcher’s Bistro… but mine is.

donald v andy argument

Which city has better brew?

Andy – You can’t go wrong with King’s Palace Tap Room on Beale Street. And, for those willing to venture off Beale, try Young Avenue Deli which has a rotating cast of locally brewed beers. Whether you want to hoist a few while grooving to live music or test your knowledge at pints and trivia night, Memphis has a bar, tap room, or public house perfect for you.

Donald – That’s cute, but there’s no way Memphis beats Denver when it comes to beer. Denver has been home to the Great American Beer Festival for the past 30 years, an event featuring more than 3,000 beers from all over the world. Craft beer was born in Denver and the craft beer scene is still thriving today. Great Divide Brewing Co is a 6 minute walk from your STAY and boasts 15 plus brews. When it comes to beer you can’t go wrong in Denver.

Umm when we said “brew” we meant coffee, not beer.

Andy – Oh, my bad! Well, Memphis has great coffee too. In town for a meeting and need your caffeine fix? Try Bluff City Coffee. Want a one-of-kind Instagrammable place? Otherlands Coffee Bar in Midtown is calling your name!

Donald – Hey Denver, is one of the best coffee shops in America walking distance from your STAY? Didn’t think so. Little Owl Coffee boasts an authentic Italian coffee bar where you can find top notch coffee and pastries. If you’re wanting to fuel up while you fill up then I’d recommend Stowaway Coffee and Kitchen, one of Denver’s best brunch spots. You’ll get a superb cup of joe from Boxcar Coffee Roasts while chowing down. My top recommendations? The avocado toast or the Colorful Colorado. Take that Memphis.

What fun events are held near your city’s STAY?

Andy – Donald seems to be getting a little hostile… must be feeling the pressure of how awesome Memphis is. It seems like every week there is a new headliner act coming to Memphis. We’ve got Bon Jovi coming in May. And Panic! At the Disco in April (for your inner angsty middle schooler). There are always things happening at the FedEx Forum and, since it’s only a nine minute walk away, you won’t have to battle other fans for a parking spot. And there’s always something happening on Beale Street. From the Beale Street Music Festival to the Beale Street Wine Race, you’ll never be bored with a STAY so close to this iconic hub of activity.

Donald – Whatever Andy… but, I have to admit Memphis sounds pretty great. That being said, Denver loves a good party, whether it’s their St. Patrick’s Day parade or Cinco de Mayo Festival. You can also catch a Colorado Rockies, Bronco’s or Denver Nuggets game super easily from your STAY. Add a ton of arts and culture events and a plethora of festivals for foodies and Denver has something for everyone… even, Andy.

Donald almost punching Andy

What makes your STAY unique?

Andy – Your STAY at Stay Alfred at The Chisca in Memphis has a full kitchen and a washer/dryer in your stay. The building also has an onsite restaurant, fitness center and BBQ areas.  And, The Chisca is the very building where Elvis was first broadcast over the radio. That’s right!!! ELVIS! The King!!! I just don’t think Stay Alfred Premier Lofts can compete with the home of music royalty.

Donald – Oh yeah!! Well, Stay Alfred Premier Lofts has a full kitchen and washer/dryer, too. And, did I mention the building also has a full gym, movie theater, rooftop deck and lounge? And, the rooftop deck is equipped with a massive TV and awesome views of the city. Take that!

We’re calling it a tie!

After some debate, it seems that both Stay Alfred at The Chisca in Memphis and Stay Alfred Premier Lofts in Denver are tied; they’re both awesome places to stay!

While Andy and Donald cool down, Book your stay at Stay Alfred The Chisca in Memphis or Stay Alfred Premier Lofts in Denver. Remember, book any 2017 STAY by April 15, 2017 and save 30% with promo code NEW30.*

Mardi Gras in 2017 – 10 Local Tips on How to do it Right.

Heading to Mardi Gras in 2017? Check out New Orleanian, and Stay Alfred’s Factors Row manager, Allison’s 10 tips on how to do Mardi Gras right.

Allison’s 10 tips on how to do Mardi Gras right

#1 Make a plan – 2017 Mardi Gras promises a lot to see and do. Make sure to plan out your time in the big easy. Check out Mardi Gras New Orleans for event details, parade schedules, maps, history and much more. All Stay Alfred New Orleans properties are just two blocks or less from all the Uptown Mardi Gras goodness. That’s a 5 minute walk from where you want to be.

#2 Bring a bag in your bag – Attending a parade? Make sure to bring a bag, there are tons of great freebies to be had.

#3 Check the streetcar schedules – It’s a great and historic way to see the city, but the schedule changes during festival season. Check out the 2017 mardi gras streetcar schedule at or the NORTA app (iphone or android) for schedules and special Mardi Gras details. Even better, there are multiple streetcar stops right down the street from all Stay Alfred New Orleans properties.

MARDI GRAS 2017 Streetcar Schedules

#4 Eat like a local – Need help deciding what Mardi Gras food to try? While many of the well known tourist spots will be overflowing during Mardi Gras, there’s still a chance to eat like a local. Stock up on traditional NOLA foods at locally-owned Rouse’s (can you say po-boys, muffulettas, jambalaya, gumbo and king cake?) Always a great addition to your Stay Alfred kitchen. The biggest problem will be figuring out how to carry it all (we suggest bringing friends)!

#5 Eat like a local some more – New Orleanians know how to brunch. Check out the Red Gravy, famous for it’s huge portions (no really, a dish can feed three!) and “healing” properties for those who checked out Bourbon Street the night before. Want something more refined? Try out the Gulf Fish St. Peter at Ruby Slipper Café. It’s art on a plate. And, great news, both eateries only a few minutes from Stay Alfred’s Factors Row!

#6 Have we mentioned food yet? For a fancy night out with your sweetie, check out Domenica. This is another great location just a 5 minute walk away from all Stay Alfred New Orleans properties. They book up, so get a reservation ASAP and pack your appetite.

Mardi Gras Food - Alligator Why Not

#7 For the adults, cruise Bourbon Street. You have to do this at least one in your life. It’s indescribable and a short walk away from Stay Alfred. Make sure to swing into Daisy Duke’s for some 24/7 classic diner fare with some Cajun flare, conveniently right down the street from all Stay Alfred New Orleans properties.

#8 Pick up souvenirs for your kiddos. Hit up the French Market any day of the week to browse booths from local artisans, or walk down North Peters to check out some specialty shops & boutiques. And, you guessed it, just a short streetcar ride away.

#9 Traveling with the kiddos? Make a family-friendly plan. Don’t worry, there are family-friendly Mardi Gras activities too! Head to St. Charles street to catch the parades. Kids love the floats and catching all the free trinkets and beads (remember the bag we told you to pack?). Son or daughter a history buff? Take them to Presbytere Museum in the French Quarter to learn all about where Mardi Gras comes from.

#10 Where to stay for Mardi Gras? If you want to experience Mardi Gras in all its splendor, then being centrally located is key. Our New Orleans Stays are the perfect way to be both in the heart of the festivities and escape the hustle and bustle with your urban 1, 2 or 3 bedroom Stay.

Some of our country’s most iconic museums stand in Washington, D.C. to serve as both inspiration and education for all who visit. Many are free of admission cost. We’ve explored them. We love them. We highly recommend making some of the most famous museums in our country part of your D.C. adventure. With Stay Alfred Vacation rentals, you can get a more in depth look at American cultural history while living like a local in a prime downtown location. Be sure to check at least a few of these out:

National Archives and Records Administration: See the documents that shaped our country’s history up close and in person. Yes, even The Declaration of Independence!  Want to go even further back in world history? One of the original copies of the Magna Carta is on display, as well. A perfect spot for the geeks who actually paid attention in history class. Admission: Free.

Smithsonian Museum of Natural History: One of our favorites. Why? Dinosaur bones. The Hope Diamond. And animals everywhere! Need we say more? Admission: Free.

Smithsonian Air and Space Museum: Witness the evolution of human flight. Highlights include the 1903 Wright Flyer, the Spirit of St. Louis, and the Apollo 11 command module. Oftentimes, a moon rock is on display, as well. Admission: Free. You’ll have to purchase tickets for simulator rides and show screenings, though. Dark Universe is worth the ticket.

National Gallery of Art: The National Gallery of Art was established by Congress in 1937 for the enjoyment of the American people. Expect to be impressed- you’ll see the greats of Da Vinci, Renoir, Degas, Monet, Jackson Pollock, and more. Marble sculptures and other artifacts from around the world often come as touring exhibits. Admission: Free.

Mount Vernon: Though this historic home lies South in Virginia, we highly recommend fitting it into your Washington, D.C. schedule. Explore the beautiful grounds and gardens of George Washington’s house as well as the President’s final resting place. Guided tours are a must. Admission: $17 for adults when you book ahead online.

Madame Tussauds Wax Museum: If you can’t see a politician in the flesh, maybe you’ll be able to see the next best thing- their wax figure. Admission: $15.95 per adult when you book ahead online.

Newseum: Witness freedom of the press at its finest. We know what you’re thinking- how interesting can a museum about the news be? The Newseum features numerous displays of major world events that are both interactive and entertaining. Guests rave that this is one of their favorites in the city. The 9/11 gallery is moving. It’s worth the $23 dollar admission, and you get two days to attend!

International Spy Museum: Learn about the history of real life spies and spy gadgets at this interactive museum that features a scavenger hunt. There’s even James Bond memorabilia. Perfect spot for families. Admission: $22 per adult, but do a Google search for coupons beforehand and you might get lucky.

United States Holocaust Memorial Museum: Don’t let the depressing subject matter scare you away. The Holocaust Memorial Museum is an incredible experience that is both highly informative and emotional. You might tear up as you walk through the hall that displays thousands of photos of people who were killed during this unforgettable tragedy. Bring tissues! Admission: Free, but you’ll need to sign up for tickets in advance online in order to prevent the museum from becoming too crowded. It’s a popular one!

You Can’t Book a Stay Alfred Reservation on Craigslist

Stay Alfred has been around for a while now. Back when we first got started in 2011, Craigslist was considered a valid distribution channel for vacation rentals. We used to post ads there, and it worked well: We made lots of reservations, and we hosted many successful stays.

Then the copycats got started. They’d copy our photos and descriptions and pose as Stay Alfred. Unsuspecting guests made “reservations” with these bad actors; paid deposits by bank transfer, money order, or check; and then were left out in the cold when they discovered their money had disappeared and they had no reservation anywhere!

You cannot book a real Stay Alfred Vacation Rental on Craigslist.
We tried reporting the scam listings. We posted notices on our ads to be suspicious of any company that doesn’t accept credit cards. We wrote articles about how to spot a vacation rental scam. But the criminals were too prodigious, and the fake ads kept popping up. They still do!

It was just too confusing for our possible guests, so we made the decision to stop using Craigslist altogether. Scammers are persistent, though, and the fake ads still pop up. We report each one of them immediately (and you can too) in an effort to prevent more good people from getting fleeced.

Craigslist, itself, isn’t to blame. It’s a great marketplace, and you can find some solid deals there–just not on Stay Alfred vacation rentals.

Here’s how to stay safe of Craigslist:

Deal locally, face-to-face —follow this one rule and avoid 99% of scam attempts.
Do not extend payment to anyone you have not met in person.
Beware offers involving shipping – deal with locals you can meet in person.
Never wire funds (e.g. Western Union) – anyone who asks you to is a scammer.
Don’t accept cashier/certified checks or money orders – banks cash fakes, then hold you responsible.
Transactions are between users only, no third party provides a “guarantee”.
Never give out financial info (bank account, social security, paypal account, etc).
Do not rent or purchase sight-unseen—that amazing “deal” may not exist.

Stay Alfred makes Inc. 500 list of America’s fastest-growing private companies

inc500_stacked_gold-600x445Inc. magazine today ranked Spokane-based Stay Alfred Vacation Rentals number 468 on its 2016 Inc. 500 list, the most prestigious ranking of the nation’s fastest-growing private companies. Stay Alfred is the first nationwide downtown vacation rental company, which provides guests with a consistent, hotel-style lodging experience city to city.

“Roughly 50 percent of all startups fail within their first five years,” writes Leigh Buchanan, editor-at-large for Inc. “Many others struggle to stay afloat, let alone grow. But these founders have not merely survived, they’ve excelled–becoming the heroes of the most terrifying, exhausting, and exhilarating journey of their lives.”

Stay Alfred’s meteoric growth — 814% in the three-year period ending in 2015 and $13.1 million in revenue, places it squarely within the elite Inc. 500, the topmost subset of the Inc. 5000 list.

“The secret to Stay Alfred’s growth without taking any outside funding is our people,” said Stay Alfred Founder and CEO Jordan Allen. “Spokane is packed with educated, enthusiastic people who meet our core values and want to help create an entirely new segment in the hospitality industry that offers consistently amazing hotel-style accommodations in high-end downtown apartment buildings.”

Stay Alfred is one of only six honorees working in the travel and hospitality space, an industry dominated by hotel and airline behemoths. The company has more than doubled its vacation rental property inventory in each of the last four years, and intends to continue to grow in existing and new markets. The company applies a combination of aggressive expansion, proprietary revenue management algorithms, world class relationship management, and a value proposition that tantalizes leisure and business travelers and attracts real estate partners.

The Inc. 5000 is ranked according to revenue growth from 2012 through 2015. To qualify, a company must have been U.S.-based, privately held, for profit and independent. Revenue in 2012 must have been at least $100,000 with revenue of at least $2-million in 2015.

Stay Alfred currently offers one-, two-, and three-bedroom downtown vacation rental properties in 12 of America’s favorite cities: Boston, Dallas, Denver, Memphis, Nashville, New Orleans, Philadelphia, Portland, San Antonio, San Diego, Seattle, and Washington, D.C.

Bringing a crowd to Seattle?

Whether you’re traveling with family, friends, or business partners, we know that our guests love having plenty of room for everyone when you book accommodations with Stay Alfred. Even if it’s just one or two people traveling, our vacation rentals are an upgrade to a hotel experience with twice as much room and home-like comfort for a similar rate. At every Stay Alfred vacation home, you’ll have your own living room, fully-equipped kitchen, and en suite laundry available. Why stuff everyone into a few 300 square foot hotel rooms when you can explore the city while living like a local in one of our one, two, or three bedroom options? Here’s just two of our condo locations available for your next Seattle adventure:

Harbor Steps
Harbor Steps vacation rental by Stay Alfred

Harbor Steps: You’ve heard of Pike Place, right? Our Harbor Steps vacation rental is perfectly located right in the same iconic neighborhood. Just a five minute stroll down the street and you’ll find the famous fish market, Gum Wall, first EVER Starbucks store, The Great Wheel, and more Seattle legends.

Not only does this property boast an unbelievable 100 Walk Score, but plenty of exciting amenities and options for your stay. At the Harbor Steps, Stay Alfred offers both one and two bedroom choices. Some of our condos even feature a dazzling waterview of Elliott Bay. The Harbor Steps offers plenty of exciting community amenities, including a lap pool, hot tub, sauna, game room, community lounge, yoga studio, and fitness center. Even if you never leave your condo, you will not be at a loss for activities.

Olympus vacation rental by Stay Alfred

Olympus: Need a bit more room? Our Olympus vacation rental location offers both two and three bedroom condos for your guests. At Stay Alfred, we’re all about location, so it’s no surprise that the Olympus also is surrounded by attractions. Just a ten minute walk to the North, you’ll find the iconic Space Needle as well as the Seattle Children’s Museum, Key Arena, and Pacific Science Center. At a 15 minute walking distance, Pike Place isn’t so far away, either. The Olympus is just steps away from the scenic Seattle waterfront, and right across the street is the art lover’s fantasy of Olympic Sculpture Park. Grab a cup of morning coffee and take a walk around the latest sculpture installations as you gaze out at the glittering waters of Elliott Bay.

City of Seafood: Best Sushi Spots in Seattle

From the famous fish tosses of Pike Place Market to the Ballard locks salmon ladder, Seattle’s distinct seafood culture is part of what makes this city so special. Naturally, Seattle is one of Stay Alfred’s favorite cities to sample sushi. After asking my sushi-obsessed office what restaurants in Seattle were the best, these were the top contenders. Feel free to let us know what sushi restaurants in town you have had the best experience at. Enjoy- and don’t forget to make a reservation!

Seattle Sushi

Sushi Kashiba: Shiro Kashiba is Seattle’s own master sushi chef. Kashiba, an apprentice to famed world’s best sushi chef Jiro Ono from “Jiro Dreams of Sushi”, has delighted sushi snobs everywhere by opening his latest restaurant in Pike Place in late 2015. Sushi Kashiba might have a high price tag, but it doesn’t disappoint. Incredibly fresh fish is paired with other interesting seafood elements to create sushi as it is supposed to be savored. You’ll be graced with attentive service and helpful presentations on what you are eating. 86 Pine Street #1, (206)441-8844

Shiro’s: Chef Kashiba also opened this 11 seat restaurant in Belltown in 1994. Though Kashiba has since moved on to work at Sushi Kashiba, the excellence of this Spartan-simple yet iconic restaurant still lives on through lead chef Jun Takai. Expect incredibly fresh seafood and traditional Japanese fare at its finest. 2401 2nd Avenue, (206)443-9844

Mashiko Japanese Restaurant & Sushi Bar: We’re not letting Shiro Kashiba’s restaurants steal all the attention. Mashiko is another high-end sushi spot in town with an enthusiastic fan base and rave reviews. What makes Mashiko special? It is Seattle’s first 100% sustainable sushi restaurant. The chef knows where every single piece of piece of seafood is coming from and prepares it with delicate care. A perfect place for special occasions. 4725 California Avenue SW, (206)935-4339

Japonessa Sushi Cocina: Looking for a more unique sushi experience? Japonessa combines Spanish flavors and flair to sushi without compromising the taste of quality cut fish. Despite the non-traditional sushi preparation methods, Japonessa is a favorite of Seattleites. The sushi isn’t the only fantastic thing here- the sake cocktails will not disappoint. 1400 1st Avenue, (206)971-7979

Momiji: With a serene, Japanese decorated interior and delicious fish cuts, Momiji has become a popular choice for sushi that’s a bit more affordable than some of the more high-end spots in town. With friendly service, a pleasant atmosphere, and a great drink menu, Momiji allows you the full Seattle sushi experience without the sushi-snob vibe. 1522 12th Avenue, (206)457-4068

Tsukushinbo: Don’t forget about this spot just because the name might be a bit difficult to say! If you’re looking for a wide selection of both sushi and other Japanese delights in a friendly atmosphere, this slightly hidden spot in the International District might be the perfect place for you. 515 South Main Street, (206)467-4004

Umi Sake House: This popular, bustling Belltown spot is known for both delectable sushi and a well-loved happy hour. While traditional sushi restaurants are more quiet, serene, and simple, Umi’s large, club-like interior and extended drink menu is perfect for a fun night out. 2230 1st Avenue, (206)374-8717

Hidden Gem!
Wataru: This totally unassuming restaurant hasn’t caught the public eye quite yet in Seattle. Tucked away on the main street in the Ravenna neighborhood, Wataru is truly a small but pleasant surprise. Chef Kotaro Kumita (who apprenticed under Shiro Kashiba, of course) only accepts 6 diners at the bar at a time where you can watch as he single-handedly creates sushi for everyone in the restaurant. The whole restaurant only seats 24. With Chef Kumita being the sole chef in this restaurant, don’t come here expecting a rapid dining experience. The foodies are slowly finding out about this place- make a reservation before you have to fight for one! 2400 NE 65th Street, (206)525-2073

Not sure where to stay in Seattle?
Skip the crowded hotel experience and live like a local in Seattle’s best neighborhoods for a comparable rate. At Stay Alfred Vacation Rentals, we offer the most walkable and safe vacation homes in town. Of course you’re condo will be close by the best sushi spots, as well. Give us a call any time of day at 866-232-3864 and our knowledgeable reservation agents will be more than happy to help you book the perfect Emerald City getaway.

Have no fear. At this time, Stay Alfred Vacation Rentals has a number of 2 bedroom apartment rentals available for your Comic-Con adventure. What is San Diego Comic Con?

San Diego Comic-Con International (or simply SDCC) is a four day entertainment and comic convention that’s been held annually in America’s Finest City since 1970. With around 167,000 attendees just last year, SDCC is easily the largest convention held in all of San Diego. This year, the convention will take place on July 21st to July 24th.

This event is SO enormous and so popular that the San Diego Convention Center is regularly packed to capacity, which means events get moved to other locations including the Gaslamp Quarter, Hilton San Diego, Petco Park, Westfield Horton Plaza, and more. Basically, SDCC truly does take over the whole city. Expect to see attendees wandering around in costumes of all sorts. Even if you’re not part of the event, it’s incredible people watching.

The madness of the SDCC vendor’s hall, Photo by: Kevin Dooley via Flickr

What to expect in 2016? At the moment, we’re not entirely sure- but it’s going to be awesome! According to the website, the OFFICIAL Comic Con schedule won’t be released until 2 weeks before the event. There’s still plenty of time for last minute fun (or last minute celebrity guests) to be added to the mix. Numerous comic artists and film writers have already made a commitment to appear.

Of course, the vendor’s hall at SDCC truly can’t be beat. It is the shopping mall of your nerdy dreams. Hundreds of vendors will gather to sell art, posters, comic books, clothing, costumes, gaming paraphernalia, and countless other fan products.

Genderbent Superhero cosplayers at SDCC, Photo by: John Austin via Flickr

Comic Con wouldn’t be complete without a huge emphasis on cosplay. Cosplay (or costume play) has grown to be one of the highlights of all comic related conventions. Watch or even participate in the 43rd annual costume masquerade. If you’re brave enough to strut your stuff on stage in front of a panel of judges, you might just win a cash prize!

Ready to go? We’d love to help you book your SDCC vacation rental. Skip the crowded hotel experience and stay in a comfortable downtown San Diego vacation home. 8 Fantastic Eats in San Antonio

We’ve sampled San Antonio and found the best eats in all of Alamo City. Whether you’re looking for something unforgettably gourmet or fantastic yet affordable, we’ve got you covered. If there’s one thing we’ve learned about San Antonio at Stay Alfred, it’s that the incredible culture here definitely shows in the local cuisine!

Delicate gourmet courses served at Mixtli, Photos by Kent Wang via Flickr

Bliss: This New American style restaurant truly lives up to its name. With a romantic, twinkling ambience and friendly service, Bliss is a San Antonio favorite for a special date night out. Must try: Oyster sliders or shrimp risotto. 926 South Presa Street

Wildfish Seafood Grille: Wildfish Seafood Grille arguably has the best seafood in San Antonio, and a decent steak (or surf and turf style dish) if seafood isn’t really your thing. Must try: Chilean Sea Bass or the crispy crab cakes. 1834 North Loop 1604 West

Mixtli: Mixtli is the brainchild of two Mexican chefs and one boxcar. Every night, they serve only 12 guests at 7PM sharp. The menu changes every 45 days to reflect the history of a different region of Mexico. Expect very interesting and visually appealing offerings unlike anything you have ever eaten. An unforgettable experience for $95 per person. Must try: Try to get a reservation! 5251 McCullough Avenue

Restaurant Gwendolyn: James Beard Award-Winning chef Michael Sohocki has truly created one of San Antonio’s major dining gems. The concept of Cafe Gwendolyn is zero electricity- the chefs only prepare food in ways that could be done before the year 1850. Expect sustainable, fresh, and organic New American delights. Must try: The menu changes every single night, but you won’t be disappointed. 152 East Pecan Street Suite #100

Mi Tierra
Mi Tierra is a bit of a tourist trap, but we love it. Photo by: Mathieu Ploude via Wikipedia Commons

Dough Pizzeria: Incredible yet affordable pizza awaits you at Dough Pizzeria Napoletana. Guy Fieri from the Food Network even called it “the real deal”. Must try: Burrata sampler. 6989 Blanco Road

Mi Tierra Cafe y Panaderia (Mi Tierra Cafe & Bakery): Fun fact, this spot was once featured on an opening episode of The Bachelor. It’s an obvious San Antonio tourist hot spot, but maybe that’s why we love it so much. Simply delicious Mexican eats and desserts in a fun, upbeat environment with CRAZY colorful decor. Must try: Deep fried ice cream. 218 Produce Row

Leon Valley Cafe: Reservations recommended. With glowing Yelp reviews (some of the best in the entire city), you’ll be surprised at just how small this loveable cafe is. Friendly service and simply delicious brunch, lunch, and dinner. Must try: Huevos Rancheros OR The Hangover Breakfast. 6526 Bandera Road

Cured: When Chef Steve McHugh was cured from lymphoma cancer in 2013, he opened one of San Antonio’s hottest charcuterie restaurants as a celebration of his victory. Naturally, the restaurant serves a wide variety of meats that are cured in-house from 30 days to 12 months-truly a carnivore’s dream. Don’t miss out on the excellent craft cocktails, as well. Must try: Charcuterie plate. 306 Pearl Parkway Suite #101

Stay Alfred Introduces Express Check-In

Express Check-InAt Stay Alfred, we’re constantly turning travel assumptions upside down.

We’re committed to becoming the best and most trusted vacation rental company in the United States, and in order to do that, we are always innovating and finding new ways to better serve the needs and desires of our guests.

For the optimal convenience of our guests, we’re proud to introduce Express Check-In to the world of travel accommodations.

Most hotels offer express check-out where guests can leave the keys behind in their room and then feel free to hit the road. However, Stay Alfred Vacation Rentals is the first vacation home company to offer Express Check-In. Some hotels offer a type of express room entry to guests, but it’s usually part of an exclusive loyalty program and guests still have to receive their keys from the front desk in the hotel lobby. When you stay with Stay Alfred, you’re guaranteed to receive the quickest and most convenient check-in possible no matter how many times you have booked with us. No loyalty program is needed. Even first-time guests can have the VIP experience of a completely independent and hassle-free vacation rental entry.

Almost all of our vacation rental locations have a check-in process that puts hotels to shame. It’s different than any other sort of check-in available in the travel industry right now. It’s faster because it allows you to enter your vacation rental at your own pace instead of waiting for a concierge or standing in line. You won’t have to provide anyone with your driver’s license or credit card. You don’t have to talk to anyone or explain any details about your stay. You don’t even have to pick up your keys from a front desk.  After a long day of traveling to your destination, we understand that you just want to check into your room, stretch out, and relax. With Express Check-In, Stay Alfred gives you the freedom to let yourself in. After all, we’re committed to giving you the experience of feeling right at home in your condo.

When you book with Stay Alfred, we’ll send you an email before your stay containing detailed instructions on how to enter your vacation home via Express Check-In. If anything at all is unclear to you, our helpful customer care agents can be reached 24/7 via phone, text, or email to provide you with any sort of assistance you might need. It’s that simple.

Stay Alfred’s introduction of Express Check-In is just one example of how we’re leading the industry by adopting new technologies and challenging outdated assumptions about how travel should be.

If you’re looking to book accommodations with the greatest possible amount of privacy, convenience, and value, Stay Alfred would love to help you find the perfect vacation rental. We always say, “Why cram your friends and family into a 300 square foot hotel room when you can book a 2 or 3 bedroom apartment for a comparable rate?” Give us a call any time of day at 866-232-3864 to speak to one of our helpful reservation agents.

Welcome to the San Antonio Riverwalk!

Nightlife at the San Antonio Riverwalk, photo by Stuart Seeger via Flickr

At Stay Alfred, we know that our guests want to stay within walking distance to the city’s best attractions. In San Antonio, we adore the beauty and excitement of the city’s legendary Riverwalk. The Riverwalk is a series of pathways along the San Antonio River that guide visitors through a gorgeous selection of attractions, shops, restaurants, and art pieces. From food carts to gourmet dining, there’s something for everyone along the Riverwalk.
Not up for a long walk? Plenty of scenic boat rides are available, as well. The Riverwalk is the perfect place to start if you want to tour the beauty of the city. (However, ALWAYS remember the Alamo!)

During April 14-24, Fiesta San Antonio is taking over the city and the Riverwalk! This annual celebration has been entertaining San Antonio for 125 years. During this 10 day extravaganza, numerous arts, culture, music, food, family, and sports events will take place.
On Friday, April 22nd, check out the Fiesta Carnival or 10th Street River Festival. Looking for something a bit more low key? There’s also a Cactus and Xerophyte show and sale for plant lovers.
On Saturday, April 23rd, you can join in on the LUNG FORCE 5K run or walk if you’re feeling a bit motivated. The King William Arts and Crafts Fair will also be going on in the King William Historic District of town.
On Sunday, April 25th, Fiesta San Antonio will wrap up with a number of fun events including the Fiesta Wildflower Ride and the Festival de Cascarones.
