We’re sure we don’t need to remind you what day it is. No doubt you’ve had it on your calendar for months and have rearranged plans so you can observe the day in all of its melty, cheesy deep-dish glory. That’s right, it’s National Pizza Day! And you can bet we’re wearing our stretchy pants and getting ready to celebrate by… indulging in Chicago’s best pizza spots.
Why Chicago? Because NYC gets too much of the pizza glory and frankly we are over it. Chicago is a pizza hotspot with so many local pizzerias that are deserving of fame, fawning, and of course, your patronage on National Pizza Day.
Our Favorite Spots:
Have you heard, it’s been cold in Chicago lately. Like, reallllly cold. So, if you’re not feeling like putting on your snow boots and layers upon layers of jackets, don’t! Just order in some delicious ‘za from Paul & Monica’s. Feeling like some thin crust pizza? Paul & Monica’s is widely regarded as one of the go-to spots. They’ve got pizza by the slice and delicious house specialties like their BLT and Mexican pizza. Hey, don’t knock it till you try it?

As one Yelp reviewer says “Who needs a girlfriend when you have pizza like this?” While we’re a little concerned for that Yelp reviewer, we do agree with the sentiment. Malnati’s pizza is amazing. And while they say “when in Rome”, we say “When in Chicago, go for the deep dish pizza.” And at Malnati’s they’ve got one of the best deep dishes around, and it’s all thanks to their signature butter crust. Meat, tomatoes, and sausage all mixed in a delicious flaky buttery crust? We’re hooked.

They say it takes 10,000 hours to perfect your craft and we’d bet that the pizza-perfectionists (also known as chefs) at The Art of Pizza have spent far more than 10,000 hours perfecting their ‘za game. And we, as the customers, get to dig in on the cheesy gooey reward. The Art of Pizza has been awarded “Best Deep Dish Pizza” from both Thrillist and the Chicago Tribune. We think they’re deserving of that honor, but you’ll have to stop in and try it out for yourself.

The Dough Bros have perfected the pizza crust and the very discerning city of Chicago agrees. They’ve mastered creating a crust with just the perfect amount of chewiness. In addition to a perfectly chewy crust, they’ve layered each pizza with just the right amount of fresh mozz. Our recommendation? Be brave and try the Roland: roasted heirloom tomato, Thai basil, lemongrass sausage, and (of course) fresh mozz.
