I’m going to cut to the chase of this blog in record time to demonstrate its matter-of-fact obviousness - it’s hockey season and that’s reason enough to travel.
Granted, you’re dealing with a bonafide hockey fan here; yes, Stay Alfred’s Sr. Social Media Manager might call sunny San Diego home, but dag-nabbit we have an AHL team (the San Diego Gulls - aka the farm team for the Anaheim Ducks and the only time in your life you’ll actually cheer in support of a seagull), and I’ll always and forever be a die-hard Detroit Red Wings fan.
So in a blatant effort to get you to more hockey games this season, and similarly to our blog posts on football and baseball seasons, I’m making the case to hit the road in the name of hockey since so many Stay Alfred travel apartments are spitting distance from downtown arenas (please note: spitting not required).
But maybe you’re thinking now is not the right time to book a trip. If work is wearing you down and you’re not quite ready for the chaos of the holidays, we’re here to tell you you’re not alone. Instead, we recommend putting off that to-do list, giving in to that pull of procrastination and getting the heck out of town to get your hockey on.
And we understand that actually getting to a game can be big production with traffic, parking, and long wait times. Well, we’re not a fan of hassles. In fact, when it comes to location we’re downright staunch about making sure guests stay in the best walkable downtown neighborhoods; that means you’re close to shops, restaurants, and yes, major event arenas.
So if you’re in need to yell at refs until your voice is hoarse, stand up during the not-so-delicate dance of fist fights and victoriously cheer at goals - here’s a list of our favorite hockey arenas in Stay Alfred cities, including our closest property:
Boston - What can we say? Bostonians really, really love their hometown heroes - don’t miss a chance to see the Bruins among the locals at TD Garden, just a 6-minute walk from Stay Alfred on Longfellow Place.
Pre-Game Eats Insider Tip: Get pumped up with a few pints and bites at The Fours, but our friends over at Eater also made this fantastic list.
Pre-Game Eats Insider Tip: It’s all about R Bar - you’ll be in good company.
Pre-Game Eats Insider Tip: Order up a burger and a brew or two over at Hero.
Pre-Game Eats Insider Tip: Hands down Euclid Hall Bar & Kitchen - two words for you: Duck Poutine.
Pre-Game Eats Insider Tip: It doesn’t get any easier than in the same building as 505 - head around the corner and grab a seat at Corner Pub.
Pre-Game Eats Insider Tip: Located across the street from the arena, hit up Buford’s Kitchen for a great family-friendly vibe.
Pre-Game Eats Insider Tip: Before you head out for the game, simply walk across the street to the Crack Shack for all your fried chicken needs (and wants).
Pre-Game Eats Insider Tip: Make the quick trip across the bridge to Cafe Dufrain for waterfront views and a modern menu.
Pre-Game Eats Insider Tip: Head to Hill Country Barbecue Market - it’s a market for barbeque, people - need we say more?
So check those Southwest and JetBlue flash sales, book that travel apartment and let the countdown to your hockey holiday commence. And we want to see all those happy hockey pics - tag #stayalfred to share the wins, losses and everything in between. Keep your eyes on the puck!
